These experiences ignited my passion for understanding cancer metastasis and becoming a physician-scientist. This then led me to pursue my Master’s at Johns Hopkins University and a future career in academic medicine focusing on cancer research and treatment.

Beside my working on my research career as a current research scientist in a pharmaceutical company, I also have a strong interest in tutoring and teaching others about the world of science. During my times working and studying in college, I had worked as a teaching assistants for 2 years in multiple college-level biology classes. In addition, I have worked as a private tutor for 5 years working with numbers of high school and college students, and have helped them with not just academic works but also giving them advise and guideline on their academic and science career planning. I strongly believe that the world of science should be spread to others in a much easier way, and I would love to continue working on helping students who want to learn about the beauty of science. With more students who interests in studying science we can all provide new insights and work on expanding our scientific knowledge in the future.

I have been tutoring extensively since I started college, serving as a teaching assistant for my freshmen chemistry course and upper-level genetics lab. I loved helping many students solve the hardest problems on an assignment or understand the toughest material. I make certain that I guide each student to come to their own correct solution and understanding, and not just repeat an answer I could have simply told them. This process is always rewarding, as I see the student’s amazement as the material finally clicks in their heads.

I really enjoy connecting and relating to my students because it helps to facilitate a more
comfortable environment for students to make mistakes and learn from them. I am extremely
patient, compassionate, and understanding. I have worked with a variety of students and feel as
though tutoring is extremely individualized especially because everyone learns differently. My
goal is to find out how to best support each student. I have led my own SAT summer class for a
group of students where I created lessons and PowerPoints. It was a very successful class. I scored a 33 on the ACT.
